Front Spring Border

The gratification of planting bulbs in fall and watching them bloom and grow in spring is so great. Last year I was given many and purchased more, so this season has been extra colorful. What a joy! Here are a few shots from the second and third week of April 2010:

The species tulip Tulipa orphanidea var. flava absolutely glowed.

The basket-of-gold (Aurinia saxatilis) and Tulipa clusiana played beautifully together.

The fragrant Narcissus 'Winston Churchill' looked great against a backdrop of luxurious sand phlox (Phlox bifida).

I plop pots of pansies all over my front border for extra color.

Narcissus 'Dickcissel' has delicate color and fragrance.

Glowing Tulipa 'Lilac Wonder' and Narcissus 'Hawera' are planted among the emerging perennials in my front border.

I've planted lots of Scilla siberica 'Spring Beauty' in hopes it will naturalize in blankets in the coming years.
